High blood pressure in adults can be a contributing factor in the acceleration of hearing loss.
In 2013, a study of 45-64 year old adults was done to determine if there was a connection between hearing loss and hypertension (high blood pressure). One third of the individuals in the study suffered from hypertension and the others did not.
The study confirmed that hypertension actually can contribute to hearing loss. The hypertension accelerates the degeneration of the “hearing apparatus” as an individual ages. Study subjects with hypertension showed a greater increase in hearing threshold, which is the lowest level of sound a person can hear.
Those with high blood pressure don’t need additional reasons to take special care of their health. This article, however, should enforce that fact. High blood pressure is also a major risk factor for strokes and cardiovascular disease.
